Ikos Andalusia vs Ikos Porto Petro: Which Is Best for Families? 2026/2027 Guide

If you are comparing Ikos Andalusia vs Ikos Porto Petro for your next family holiday, you can't go wrong. Both are luxury all-inclusive Ikos resorts in Spain, with excellent restaurants, kids' clubs, activities, pools, beach service and the Ikos Local Discovery programme.

If you are looking for the best Ikos for kids, the right choice depends on your children's ages, how important the beach is to you, whether you want to explore outside the resort, and the type of family holiday you prefer.

The two resorts feel quite different.

Ikos Andalusia sits on the Costa del Sol between Marbella and Estepona. It has a long beachfront setting, a wider choice of restaurants, extensive sports facilities and complimentary golf.

Ikos Porto Petro is on Mallorca's quieter south-east coast. It has two sandy coves, strong facilities for younger children, excellent family accommodation and the advantage of being able to walk into Porto Petro and its marina.

Location and overall feel

Ikos Andalusia sits on the Costa del Sol, around 50 minutes from Malaga Airport. Marbella is around 20 minutes away, while Estepona and Puerto Banús are around 15 minutes from the resort.

The hotel covers 21 acres and has 425 rooms, suites and villas. It feels contemporary and fairly substantial, with landscaped grounds running down towards the beach.

Ikos Porto Petro has a completely different atmosphere. It sits between two sandy coves on Mallorca's south-east coast, beside Mondragó Natural Park. Porto Petro Marina is a short walk away, which is a real advantage if you like being able to leave the resort on foot.

Palma Airport is around an hour away, and the resort feels more connected to its surroundings, with pine-covered hills and a traditional Mallorcan harbour nearby.

If you want Marbella, shopping and a livelier destination outside the hotel, choose Andalusia.

If you prefer a quieter coastal location with somewhere you can walk to nearby, Porto Petro has the edge.

Which has the better beach?

Ikos Andalusia has a 420-metre beach directly in front of the resort, giving you a traditional long beachfront with plenty of space to walk.

Porto Petro has two smaller sandy coves rather than a single long beach. The setting is arguably prettier, with sheltered Mediterranean waters and a more intimate feel.

Choose Andalusia for a longer beach and more space. Choose Porto Petro for smaller, sheltered coves and Mallorcan scenery.

Neither has the huge sweeping beach you get at Ikos Aria in Kos, so if the beach is your absolute priority, Aria is also worth considering.

Which Ikos is best for toddlers?

If you are searching for the best Ikos for toddlers or the best Ikos for young children, Porto Petro is particularly strong.

Both resorts offer organised childcare from six months through to teenagers. Porto Petra’s newer area includes a pool alongside Ouzo restaurant with a splashpad, plus plenty of family room configurations and new three- and four-bedroom Deluxe villas with private gardens and infinity pools.

Andalusia is still excellent for younger children, with an enhanced Kids Club, outdoor playground and baby equipment available on request.

Between the two, though, I would choose Porto Petro for babies, toddlers, and preschool-age children.

Which is best for primary-school-age children?

For children around 5 to 11, both resorts work extremely well. Porto Petro has the advantage if your children love pools, splash areas and a more relaxed family set-up.

Andalusia has the edge for sport and organised activities, particularly as children get older.

If your primary-school-age children are very active and want football, tennis, water sports and plenty to do throughout the day, I would lean towards Andalusia. If they are happiest moving between the pool, beach and kids' club, Porto Petro is a very strong choice.

Best Ikos resort for older children and teenagers

If you are looking for the best Ikos resort for teenagers, Andalusia has the edge between these two.

Complimentary activities include tennis, five-a-side football, basketball, beach volleyball, paddleboarding, canoeing and fitness classes. There are also paid Football, Swimming and Tennis Academies.

Porto Petro still has plenty to do, including padel, three tennis courts, mini football, paddleboarding, canoeing, pedalos, fitness classes and cycling. Both resorts also run Just4Teens activities.

But if you have sporty teenagers who need plenty to keep them occupied, Andalusia has the slight advantage.

Golf

This is an easy win for Ikos Andalusia. Guests receive one complimentary green fee per golfer, per stay, at Los Naranjos Golf Club through the Ikos Local Discovery programme. A handicap certificate or golf licence is required.

Porto Petro does not currently offer an equivalent.

If one parent wants to play golf while the rest of the family stays at the resort, Andalusia makes far more sense.

Pools

Ikos Andalusia has nine heated indoor and outdoor pools. Porto Petro has five main pools, plus its newer splashpad area. But numbers don't tell the whole story.

Porto Petro's family pool and splash facilities are especially appealing for families with younger children, while Andalusia offers more pools overall.

If you are researching the best Ikos resort for kids, consider your children's ages rather than simply choosing the resort with the most pools.

Restaurants

Ikos Andalusia has more dining options. There are eight à la carte restaurants, plus its main Mediterranean restaurant and eight bars.

Porto Petro has six à la carte restaurants plus The Market, following the addition of Ouzo.

Both resorts offer Ikos Dine Out, allowing you to eat at selected local restaurants as part of your all-inclusive stay.

For longer holidays or families who value restaurant variety, Andalusia has the advantage.

For most families staying seven nights, Porto Petro still gives you plenty of choice.

Deluxe Collection: Ikos Andalusia vs Ikos Porto Petro

Both resorts offer an excellent Deluxe Collection. Benefits include upgraded rooms, a dedicated Deluxe concierge, exclusive deluxe-only pool and beach areas, upgraded food and drinks, an additional wine list, spa treatments and complimentary use of an electric MINI Countryman for two days rather than one. Plus, access to Seasons deluxe-only restaurants at both resorts.

Deluxe Collection at Ikos Porto Petro

Porto Petro has significantly expanded its Deluxe offering. It now has new three- and four-bedroom villas with private gardens and infinity pools, plus a new area of one-bedroom suites around a central pool.

This makes Porto Petro particularly well suited to larger and multi-generational families who want more space without losing the benefits of an all-inclusive resort.

If I were travelling with grandparents or several children and wanted a villa-style set-up, Porto Petro would be very high on my list.

Exploring outside the resort

Both resorts include the Ikos Local Drive Adventure, giving you an electric MINI Countryman for a day. Deluxe guests receive it for two days.

From Andalusia you can explore Marbella, Estepona, Puerto Banús and the white villages of the Costa del Sol.

From Porto Petro you can explore Mallorca's coves, villages and countryside, with Mondragó Natural Park nearby.

Porto Petro also has the advantage of being within walking distance of the marina. If you like being able to leave the resort for a wander, drink or change of scenery without needing a car, this is one of Porto Petro's strongest selling points.

Weather: Ikos Andalusia vs Ikos Porto Petro

Weather matters most if you are travelling in May, September or October. In May, Estepona averages around 23°C during the day with roughly 21mm of rain across the month. The chance of a wet day drops as the month progresses. Palma averages around 22.5°C in May with roughly 36mm of rain.

In October, Estepona averages around 23°C with roughly 52mm of rain. Palma averages around 23.7°C with roughly 69mm of rain.

This does not mean Andalusia will always have better weather. Mallorca can have beautiful warm October weeks, and the Costa del Sol can have rain. However, if you are choosing specifically for a shoulder-season holiday and avoiding rain is important, I would give Andalusia a slight edge.

In July and August, both should offer reliably hot summer weather.
