Padstow Holiday Village Review

We stayed at Padstow Holiday Village in October 2026 for three nights as a hosted press stay. All opinions are my own.

I only recommend places I would stay with my own family.

Looking for a luxury family holiday park in Cornwall with modern accommodation, excellent dog-friendly facilities and easy access to some of North Cornwall's best beaches?

We've just returned from three nights at Padstow Holiday Village by Lovat Parks, and it's one of those places that really caters to the whole family, including the dog!

We visited in October with our two young boys and our golden retriever, Alfie, staying in a Premium, Three-Bedroom Holiday Home. The award-winning holiday park has seven beautiful beaches nearby, fabulous restaurants, and the picturesque harbour town of Padstow just a mile away; we packed plenty into our long weekend.

From the brilliant dog agility area and children's playground to delicious food, coastal walks and cosy evenings by the fire, there was plenty to keep us entertained. But is Padstow Holiday Village really worth booking? And how does it compare with other luxury family holiday parks in Cornwall?

Here's my honest review of our three-night stay, including everything you need to know before booking, our favourite things to do in Padstow with children and how to save 10% on your own Lovat Parks holiday.

Where Is Padstow Holiday Village?

One of Padstow Holiday Village's biggest selling points is its location. The holiday park sits in the Cornish countryside just outside Padstow, close to some of North Cornwall's most popular beaches and coastal attractions.

Unlike some Cornwall holiday parks where you need to drive everywhere, Padstow Holiday Village has a public footpath leading directly into Padstow. It's about a one-mile walk through the countryside to the harbour, which we did twice over the weekend. The boys managed the walk without complaint; Alfie enjoyed exploring, and it was lovely to leave the car behind.

Padstow itself is a fantastic town to explore, with a working harbour, independent shops, ice cream parlours, traditional Cornish pasty shops and an excellent selection of restaurants. Being able to walk into the town centre without worrying about parking was a real advantage, especially in a popular spot like Padstow. For anyone searching for holiday accommodation within walking distance of Padstow, this is a huge plus.

Our Premium Three-Bedroom Holiday Home at Padstow Holiday Village

We stayed in a Premium Three-Bedroom Holiday Home, which was the perfect size for our family of four.

I'm quite particular about accommodation, especially on family holidays. I want somewhere that feels comfortable, modern and well maintained, with enough room for everyone to have their own space.

Our accommodation ticked those boxes. The interior was modern and welcoming, with a comfortable living area, practical kitchen and three separate bedrooms. With two young boys, having separate bedrooms makes such a difference. We could put them to bed and still enjoy a quiet evening without worrying about disturbing them. A proper living space also made the holiday feel much more relaxed than a standard hotel room. The kitchen was useful for breakfast and snacks, although with so many good restaurants nearby, we didn't end up doing much cooking! We visited in October, so while the days were lovely and sunny, the evenings were perfect for relaxing indoors.

After a day exploring North Cornwall, nothing beat returning to our accommodation, lighting the fire, and enjoying a cosy evening together.

Our Verdict on the Accommodation

Our Premium Three-Bedroom Holiday Home was modern, spacious and comfortable. It offered exactly what we wanted from a luxury family staycation in Cornwall, without the need to book multiple hotel rooms. I'd happily stay in this accommodation again.

Is Padstow Holiday Village Dog-Friendly?

Absolutely, and this was probably one of the things that impressed us most. We've stayed in plenty of dog-friendly accommodation over the years, but there's a big difference between somewhere that simply allows dogs and somewhere that genuinely welcomes them. Padstow Holiday Village falls into the second category. Alfie was living his best life all weekend!

Dog Agility Area

One of Alfie's favourite features was the dedicated dog agility area. It's a great addition to the park and gave us somewhere to exercise him without leaving the site. Whether your dog enjoys jumping over obstacles, exploring or simply having a good run around, it's a brilliant facility.

Spacious Dog Exercise Field

There's also a large exercise field, ideal for an early morning walk or a game of fetch. This was particularly useful when we wanted to give Alfie some exercise before breakfast or after returning from a day out.

Dog Shower for Sandy Paws

Possibly one of the most practical facilities for anyone holidaying in Cornwall with a dog! The park has a dog shower where you can wash off sand and mud before heading back into your accommodation. After a morning exploring Harlyn Beach, Alfie was absolutely covered in sand. Rinsing him off before taking him inside was incredibly useful. Anyone who owns a golden retriever will appreciate this!

Dog Treats and Welcome Extras

Lovat Parks provides doggie welcome packs with its pet-friendly accommodation. It was so cute, including doggie bags, a blanket, treats, and a toy! These little touches make a real difference.

Can You Bring Two Dogs?

The park allows up to two dogs per booking in suitable accommodation. Always check the pet policy and accommodation details before booking.

My Verdict for Dog Owners

If you're searching for one of the best dog-friendly holiday parks in Cornwall, I'd absolutely put Padstow Holiday Village on your shortlist. With dog-friendly accommodation, a spacious exercise field, agility facilities and a dog shower, it's an excellent choice for families who don't want to leave their four-legged family members behind. And with so many beautiful dog-friendly walks and beaches nearby, it's a brilliant base for exploring North Cornwall.

Things to Do at Padstow Holiday Village With Children

Another thing I really liked about Padstow Holiday Village was the balance between child-friendly facilities and a relaxed atmosphere. It's not a huge traditional holiday park filled with entertainment complexes and noisy attractions. Instead, it offers outdoor activities and enough space for children to play without feeling overwhelmed. For us, that worked perfectly

Children's Playground

Our boys headed straight to the playground as soon as we arrived! The play area is themed around the Padstow Lifeboat Station, which is a lovely touch given the park's location.

We visited the playground every day during our stay. It's ideal for younger children, giving them somewhere to burn off energy while parents enjoy a more relaxed pace. Outdoor table tennis is another useful option for slightly older children and families.

Children's Adventure Trail

On Sunday, we completed the children's adventure trail around the park. It's a lovely way to explore the grounds and keep little ones entertained. The boys enjoyed having something to look out for as we walked around. Activities like this are particularly good for families who want a few things to do without organising expensive days out every day.

Free Belly Board Hire

One thoughtful extra at Lovat Parks is free equipment hire. Guests can borrow wooden belly boards, which is particularly useful when visiting some of North Cornwall's famous beaches. Instead of buying or transporting bulky equipment, you can borrow what you need for a beach day.

Park Shop and Family Essentials

A small on-site shop lets you pick up essentials. This is useful when travelling with children, especially if you've forgotten something or need milk for breakfast. The park also offers Wi-Fi and facilities such as a board game library.

Is Padstow Holiday Village Good for Toddlers?

Yes, I'd happily recommend it for families with babies, toddlers and primary-school-aged children. The accommodation offers much more space than a standard hotel bedroom, which is particularly helpful if you have young children who nap or go to bed early. The playground, outdoor space and easy access to beaches are all big advantages. It's also a good option for families who prefer quieter holidays rather than parks with large entertainment complexes.

The Apple Orchard

We ate at The Apple Orchard on both Friday and Saturday evenings. After a long drive down to Cornwall on Friday, it was lovely not to have to get back into the car to find somewhere for dinner. The food was exactly what we fancied after a busy day.

Think stacked burgers, loaded tacos, and generous burritos, paired with excellent Cornish cider! It's relaxed, informal food that works really well for families. Having somewhere to eat close to your accommodation makes a difference when you're travelling with children. You don't always want to dress everyone up and head out to a restaurant, especially after a full day of exploring and the little ones are tired. The Apple Orchard is closed on Sundays and Tuesdays.

Craftworks at Padstow Holiday Village

The park also features Craftworks Secret Garden, a seasonal outdoor dining area. This offers a relaxed alfresco dining option during the warmer months. As seasonal food options can change, I'd recommend checking what's operating during your chosen travel dates.

Self-Catering in Your Holiday Home

One benefit of choosing a holiday home over a hotel is having your own kitchen. Enjoy breakfast at your own pace, pack lunches for the beach, or cook dinner if you prefer a quieter evening. This is particularly useful for families travelling with babies or younger children.

Best Restaurants Near Padstow Holiday Village

North Cornwall has some fantastic places to eat, and we visited a couple of favourites during our three-night stay.

The Cornish Arms, St Merryn

On Sunday, we headed to Rick Stein's The Cornish Arms in St Merryn for a traditional Sunday roast. It's close to Padstow Holiday Village and a great option for anyone wanting a proper pub lunch during their stay.

After a morning at the beach, it was exactly what we needed. I'd recommend booking ahead, particularly for Sunday lunch or during school holidays.

The Mariners, Rock

One highlight of our weekend was taking the passenger ferry across the Camel Estuary from Padstow to Rock. The boys loved the scenic journey, which took around ten minutes each way. After arriving, we explored Rock before having lunch at Paul Ainsworth's The Mariners, which offers spectacular estuary views. Combining the ferry crossing with lunch made for a lovely family outing and was a much more enjoyable alternative to driving around the estuary.

If you're looking for things to do in Padstow with children, I'd definitely recommend this.

Eating in Padstow

Padstow is well known for its food scene, especially its seafood restaurants and ties to Rick Stein.

You'll find everything from traditional Cornish pasties, ice cream parlours and fish and chips to independent cafés and restaurants. Of course, it's never too cold for my boys to have an ice cream; just watch out for the seagulls, who fancy one too! One reason I love Padstow Holiday Village's location is that you have all these options nearby while staying somewhere peaceful in the countryside.

Best Beaches Near Padstow Holiday Village

North Cornwall has some of the UK's most beautiful beaches, and Padstow Holiday Village is ideally located for exploring them. The surrounding coastline is often called the Seven Bays, with sandy beaches for family days out, surfing, rock pooling, and coastal walks.

Harlyn Bay

We spent Sunday morning at Harlyn Beach, which was so much fun. It's a beautiful sandy beach, with plenty of space for the boys to play and Alfie to run around. It’s Dog-friendly all year round. October was a fantastic time to visit. The summer crowds had disappeared, the weather was gorgeous, and the beach felt lovely and relaxed.

Top tip: a lovely little café called Beach Box sits right next to Harlyn Beach, with a seated decking area. It provides freshly prepared food and drink sourced locally. Having visited many times over the years, I can highly recommend the breakfasts and pizzas!

Other Beaches Near Padstow

If you're spending more time in the area, several other beaches are worth exploring.

  • Trevone Bay: A lovely option for families, with a sandy beach and rock pools to explore.

  • Constantine Bay: A beautiful stretch of sand, popular with surfers and families.

  • Treyarnon Bay: A great beach for exploring rock pools and enjoying a traditional Cornish beach day.

  • Mother Ivey's Bay: A sheltered sandy beach in a particularly scenic location with the Lifeboat launch.

  • Porthcothan Bay: Another lovely North Cornwall beach, with plenty of space to explore at low tide.

  • Booby's Bay: A beautiful sandy bay that becomes more accessible at low tide.

If you're travelling with a dog, remember that seasonal restrictions apply to some Cornwall beaches. Always check the latest dog access rules before visiting.

Things to Do in Padstow With Kids

One of the biggest reasons to choose Padstow Holiday Village is the number of nearby family-friendly attractions and activities. You could easily spend a week here and find something different to do every day.

1. Explore Padstow Harbour

Padstow Harbour is a lovely place to spend a few hours. Our boys enjoyed watching the boats, browsing the shops, and exploring the town. Plenty of places to stop for an ice cream or lunch. Being able to walk from Padstow Holiday Village made it particularly convenient.

2. Take the Ferry From Padstow to Rock

This was a definite highlight for our boys. The short passenger ferry crossing offers beautiful views across the Camel Estuary and is a fun activity in itself. Once you reach Rock, you can explore the waterfront and stop for something to eat.

3. Visit Harlyn Beach

For a relaxed family beach day, Harlyn is an excellent choice. Pack a picnic, bring the beach toys and enjoy the beautiful North Cornwall coastline.

4. Explore the Camel Trail

The Camel Trail is one of Cornwall's best-known walking and cycling routes. The traffic-free route follows parts of the Camel Estuary and surrounding countryside. It's popular with families, and bike hire is available in the area.

5. Try a Different Beach Every Day

With seven beautiful bays nearby, you can easily plan several different beach days during your holiday. Some are popular with surfers, while others are great for rock pooling and playing in the sand.

6. Enjoy the Facilities at the Holiday Park

You don't need to go out every day. The playground, adventure trail, dog exercise areas and outdoor facilities give families plenty of opportunities to enjoy time together without leaving the park. For me, this is an important part of a family holiday. Sometimes the best days are the ones without a packed itinerary and chance to relax.

Our Three-Night Family Itinerary at Padstow Holiday Village

If you're planning a long weekend in Padstow, here's exactly how we spent our stay.

Friday: Arrival and Exploring the Holiday Park

We arrived at Padstow Holiday Village on Friday and settled into our three-bedroom accommodation. The boys couldn't wait to explore the playground, and Alfie was equally excited to check out the dog-friendly facilities. After unpacking, we enjoyed dinner at The Apple Orchard. It was a lovely, relaxed start to our Cornwall weekend.

Saturday: Padstow Harbour, Ferry to Rock and Lunch at The Mariners

Saturday started with a beautiful morning and a walk along the public footpath into Padstow. We explored the harbour and town before taking the ferry across to Rock. The boys loved the boat journey, and we enjoyed lunch at The Mariners.

After exploring, we returned to Padstow and headed back to the holiday park. We finished the day with another relaxed evening at The Apple Orchard and then a cosy night in the holiday home playing cards.

Sunday: Harlyn Beach, Adventure Trail and Sunday Roast

Sunday was another gorgeous day. We started with a trip to Harlyn Beach, where the boys enjoyed playing on the sand, and Alfie had a swim! Back at Padstow Holiday Village, we completed the children's adventure trail and used the park's facilities.

We then headed to The Cornish Arms in St Merryn for Sunday lunch. Our final evening was spent relaxing by the fire in our accommodation.

We had such beautiful weather throughout the weekend, including some spectacular sunrises. It was a lovely way to spend three quality nights together as a family.

Is October a Good Time to Visit Padstow?

Having visited in October, I'd absolutely recommend considering Cornwall outside the peak summer season. We were incredibly lucky with the weather. The days were warm and sunny, perfect for coastal walks, beach trips and exploring Padstow.

One of the biggest advantages was how much quieter everything felt. Anyone who has visited Cornwall during the summer holidays knows how busy the roads and popular beaches can get.

In October, getting around was much easier. The narrow roads to the beaches were quieter, parking was easier, and Padstow felt much more relaxed. There's something lovely about spending a sunny autumn day at the beach before returning to a warm, comfortable holiday home in the evening. Of course, October weather in Cornwall can be unpredictable, so I still packed waterproofs and warmer clothes, but luckily, we didn’t need them!

If you're looking for a family holiday in Cornwall during October half-term, Easter holidays, Bank Holidays, or May half-term, Padstow Holiday Village is worth considering. The park is open year-round, although some facilities and food outlets operate seasonally.

What Makes Padstow Holiday Village Different From Other Cornwall Holiday Parks?

Cornwall offers hundreds of places to stay, from small cottages and boutique hotels to large family holiday parks. So, what makes Padstow Holiday Village stand out? For me, it's the combination of modern accommodation, excellent dog facilities, a relaxed atmosphere, and its location. It's not a traditional holiday park with a packed entertainment programme, a large swimming pool complex, or a busy clubhouse. Instead, it focuses on comfortable accommodation, outdoor activities, and exploring the local area. Personally, that's exactly the type of holiday park I prefer. You have enough on-site to keep younger children entertained, but the real attraction is having Padstow and some of Cornwall's best beaches so close. It's a great option for families who want the flexibility of self-catering accommodation without compromising on comfort.

Who Would I Recommend Padstow Holiday Village For?
  • Families With Young Children

The playground, adventure trail, spacious accommodation and nearby beaches make this a great choice for families.

  • Families Travelling With Dogs

The dog facilities are a real selling point. Alfie was made to feel very welcome, and the dog shower and exercise areas were particularly useful.

  • Families Looking for Luxury Holiday Homes in Cornwall

If you prefer modern, comfortable accommodation over traditional caravans, consider the Premium holiday homes and Exclusive lodges.

  • Couples Looking for a Cornwall Weekend Break

The peaceful setting and proximity to Padstow's restaurants make it a lovely option for couples too.

  • Families Visiting Cornwall Outside Summer

Because the park is open year-round, it's suitable for autumn weekends, spring breaks and holidays outside the busiest summer months.

What We Loved About Padstow Holiday Village

Several things stood out during our stay.

  • The modern, comfortable three-bedroom accommodation.

  • The excellent dog facilities, especially the dog agility area and shower.

  • Being able to walk into Padstow rather than drive.

  • The lovely playground and adventure trail for the boys.

  • Having convenient food options nearby.

  • The friendly, helpful staff throughout our stay.

  • The peaceful atmosphere and stunning countryside.

  • Being so close to Harlyn Beach and other beautiful North Cornwall beaches.

  • The flexibility of staying somewhere open year-round.

Most importantly, it was somewhere we could all enjoy as a family. The boys were happy, Alfie had a fantastic weekend, and we could explore Padstow at our own pace.

Are there any top tips?

Here are a few things worth knowing:

Firstly, Padstow Holiday Village isn't a traditional, entertainment-focused holiday park. If you're looking for indoor swimming pools, organised evening entertainment and lots of indoor children's activities, another resort may suit your family better.

Secondly, while the walk into Padstow is a real advantage, remember it's approximately a mile each way, with an uphill return journey. If you're travelling with toddlers, you can’t take a pushchair, so you'll need a baby carrier, or you can take a local bus that stops just outside Padstow Holiday Park.

Thirdly, not every holiday home or lodge accepts dogs, so check the accommodation details carefully before booking.

Is Padstow Holiday Village Worth It? Our Final Verdict

After three nights at Padstow Holiday Village, I can confidently say we would 100% return. The location is excellent, the accommodation is modern and comfortable, and the facilities for children and dogs are particularly good.

What I liked most was how relaxed the park felt. The boys loved exploring the playground and beaches, Alfie enjoyed the dog-friendly facilities, and we had fantastic meals and time together as a family. Being able to walk into Padstow was a huge bonus, as was having so many lovely beaches within a short drive.

For families looking for a luxury, dog-friendly holiday in Cornwall, especially those who prefer modern self-catering accommodation over a large holiday park resort, I'd absolutely recommend Padstow Holiday Village.

And having enjoyed it in October, I'd happily return at another time of year.

It's a fantastic base for exploring North Cornwall, whether you're planning a three-night weekend break or a longer family holiday.
